15 January 2018

Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley has recently handed over thousands of pounds to worthy causes following a record year of fundraising.

Last month, the Alhambra Shopping Centre welcomed more than 1400 children to its popular Santa’s Grotto and 3D Christmas movie generating almost £4,500 with all proceeds going directly to Barnsley Hospice.

The retail outlet also helped raised over £20,000 for the Royal British Legion by hosting a poppy appeal stand within the Centre, this contributed to almost a quarter of the total money raised throughout the district. A further £6,300 was raised earlier in the year for Hallam FM ‘s Cash for Kids and Great Ormond Street Hospital following the success of the annual One Great Day fundraising events in June. This, along with other local charities visiting the Centre including, York Birds of Prey, Royston Animal Welfare and Barnsley Hospice craft stand has totaled over £35,000.

Alhambra’s Centre Manager, John Tarrant said: "As a community Shopping Centre it is a high priority for us to support local charities, combined we have raised over £35,000 throughout 2017. This is a record year for us and we are thrilled with the results. We hope that our donations will help continue the fantastic work that our charities do in the local community. A special thank you goes out to all the volunteers representing the charities that we worked with this year, we couldn’t raise such fantastic amounts without them.”
